Nigeria Language

Language of Nigeria naturally exhibits the influences from several ethnic groups and cultures. Over 500 languages are there in country that is spoken by the different groups and tribes. Though official language of country is English, over 50% of country people can speak in English language and used commonly for conducting the official affairs. About every tribe in culture of country has its own language that prefers themselves. Most famous local languages of Nigeria are Edo , Yoruba, Igbo, Tiv Ibibio and Kanuri.

 
 

These languages are used mostly for the mass communication and media mass like radio and television in country. These languages are taught in the schools.

Ajawa, Auyokawa, Auyokawa, Holma, Mawa, Kpati, Teshenawa, Gamo-Ningi are tribal languages and are no longer practiced by local civilians in country. Numerous languages catalogued and in country are 521. That number of languages includes 510 living, two second languages except native speakers and about 9 are extinct languages. Some areas of country with ethnic groups speak at least two languages.

 

Nigerian official language is English; former colonial language had chosen to facilitate linguistic and cultural unity of country. Major spoken languages in country are Igbo, Hausa, Kanuri, and Ibibio. Most ethnic groups in country prefer in their own languages when communicate.

Approximately 75% of country populace in rural areas, major communication languages in country remains tribal languages, most widely spoken are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

 

Linguistic diversity of country is microcosm of African region as whole; it is encompassing three African family languages, Nilo-Saharan, Afro-Asiatic and Niger-Congo. Country has unclassifiable language spoken by few old people among cham in the Gombe State . Classification of remaining languages is also controversial Greenberg is classified without noun-classes. However, recent opinion has also been reverting to the Greenberg's distinctions. Historically a recent standardization of Igbo has also provoked because of dialectical diversity.
