Favorite Foods of Nigeria

Nigerian cuisine is like West African cuisine, it is famous for the variety as well as its richness. There are many different spices in Nigerian cuisine, flavorings ands herbs are used in the combination with pure palm oil or the groundnut oil. Recipes are done to create a deep flavored soup and sauces. These are made very hot having a touch of chili peppers. Feasts of Nigeria are lavish and colorful, many aromatic markets are there and roadside snacks are cooked on the barbecues and fried in the oil available.

 
 

Some popular dishes or cuisines are there such as Afang; it is vegetable soup and has origin from the southeast of country.

Another famous dish is Iyan; it is similar to the mashed potatoes and is prepared from yam pounded. It is mashed without yam chunks left. Amaala is thick paste that is made from the yam skin. Yam is peeled, dried, cleaned and then it is blended and is similar to the iyan to prepare cuisine.

 

Normally, it is darker in color, groundnut stew is liked by localities, it must be tried if someone visits Nigerian due to its consideration with jewel in crown of the Nigerian cooking, groundnut, onions, and tomatoes are used in its preparation.

Famous draw soup is popular and it's made from the melon seeds or okra. They are cooked and called garri that is like amala. Another famous Nigerian cuisine is fried plantain or calling 'dodo'. Generally it is used as side dish of the plantains in vegetable oil or in palm oil.

 

Fufu is thick and smooth paste and is made from the cocoyam or yams. Cuisine of Nigeria is like West African cuisine and is eaten in different varieties.
